THE QUICK ANSWER

RE:UP offers sports injury assessment and rehabilitation in Altrincham at 20 Huxley Street, Broadheath. Initial assessments are conducted by a Level 5 qualified sports therapist and cost £60. Follow-up sessions are from £40. Open seven days a week. We serve clients from Hale, Sale, Timperley, Bowdon and across South Manchester. Free rehabilitation guides are also available for those who prefer to self-manage between appointments.

THE PROCESS

Assessment first, then treatment

Your initial appointment (60 minutes) begins with a full movement screen and case history. The therapist identifies what is wrong, explains what they have found, and where appropriate starts hands-on treatment in the same session.

You leave with a clear understanding of your injury and a structured plan — what treatment will involve, how long recovery is likely to take, and what you can do between sessions.

Follow-up sessions (from £40) focus on treatment and progression. Each session is adjusted based on how you have responded.

01

Movement screening & case history

The therapist reviews how and when the injury occurred, takes you through movement tests, and identifies the affected structure.

02

Diagnosis and explanation

You are told exactly what is wrong and why, in plain terms. No jargon.

03

Hands-on treatment

Manual therapy, soft tissue work, or mobilisation begins in the same appointment where appropriate.

04

Rehab plan and home exercises

You leave with exercises and load management guidance to work on between sessions.

YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT

What to expect from your initial assessment

Your first appointment is 60 minutes. Here is what the therapist works through.

  1. 1

    Case history

When and how the injury happened, what makes it better or worse, any previous treatment, and your current activity level and goals.

  2. 2

    Postural and movement screen

The therapist observes how you stand, walk and move through relevant ranges. This reveals compensations and movement patterns linked to the injury.

  3. 3

    Palpation and provocation testing

Hands-on assessment of the affected structure — feeling for tenderness, swelling and tissue quality. Provocation tests confirm what is and is not painful under load.

  4. 4

    Diagnosis and explanation

The therapist tells you exactly what they found and what it means, in plain terms. You should understand your injury before you leave.

  5. 5

    First treatment

Where appropriate, treatment begins in the same session. You also leave with home exercises and a clear expectation of how long recovery is likely to take.

WHAT TO BRING

Wear or bring comfortable clothing that allows access to the affected area. If you have any imaging (X-ray, MRI scan reports), bring those too — though you do not need them to book.

IMPORTANT

When to seek urgent medical help

Sports therapy is not appropriate as the first response to the following symptoms. If you experience any of these, contact your GP, call NHS 111, or go to A&E.

  • Numbness or tingling in the groin or saddle area (between the legs)
  • Loss of bladder or bowel control alongside back or leg pain
  • Progressive weakness in both legs simultaneously
  • Severe pain following a significant fall, accident, or trauma
  • Unexplained weight loss combined with joint or muscle pain
  • Fever or feeling unwell combined with musculoskeletal pain
  • Obvious deformity, dislocation, or suspected fracture after injury

RETURN TO SPORT

Return to sport: your rehabilitation programme

Phase 1

Reduce pain and restore movement

The first priority is getting the injury calm, reducing swelling where present, and restoring normal range of motion. Manual therapy, soft tissue work and gentle loading.

Phase 2

Rebuild strength and control

Progressive loading of the injured structure. Strength work specific to the injury and your sport. Neuromuscular control (the body learning to protect itself again).

Phase 3

Return to full activity

Sport-specific movement, full training loads, and a discharge plan that confirms you are ready to return without increased injury risk.

"Charlie is great. Had a minor flare up ITB and he sorted the inflammation out and gave useful advice on how to prevent it from flaring up again. 4 weeks later I ran London marathon. Can't recommend enough."
